Didn’t the Nazi’s say “we were just following orders”. It breaks my heart to see what Australia has come too.
So Ken the Police are like the Nazis? The Police are full of excellent young Australian men and women. The Policeman who tells you you can protest in the city but you can’t take up residence there is the same guy who will come to your house if you get burgled. He will be the one who in great sadness will knock on your door late at night to tell you your child has been killed in a road accident. It might break your heart but they lift mine. Maybe it helps your cause to create enemies where none exist.
I support the global occupy movement. But this is blatant false advertising. If there was any police violence this morning, this video doesn’t show it. In my view, by sensationalising a header like that, you’re just as bad as the mainstream media and the lying corporate and government entities against whom you are protesting.
It for the majority of this video, the camera man was clearly right in the middle of the action, there are cops all over the place, in every frame.
Not one of the uniforms say anything to him or stop him from recording.
The bald cop at the end, dressed in civvies, in my view, was polite to the cameraman, and frankly, the camerman was a smart ass and an asshole. The copy didn’t tell him to stop filming, he just told him to get out of the police area.
Fair enough, you mightn’t agree with him, and you might not agree with what the police are doing, but for a cameraman, with a camera, to move out of the way of police work, is common sense.
The guy could have continued filming.
While the cop was polite to him, it seemed to me the camerman was going out of his way to be an asshole.
“I don’t have any bags”???
Wake up to yourself mate.
This kind of behaviour just makes it look like you’re trying to pick a fight. And frankly, when that happens, it dilutes the whole concept of “police violence”.
Being a wanker to cops, who are the 99%, and putting up misleading headings, does nothing for this movement.
now I hope that you allow me, another one of the 99%, to exercise my freedom of speech and you actually publish rather than censor my comment.
If you can’t do that, then you really have no credibility.
I suppose the bloke with the bleeding nose punched himself in the face!
I was not the only person with a recording device told to move away, the cops knew they would use force so anyone with a recording device had to be gotten rid off, I was on public land and police are public servants and thus should be recorded during such actions by them, if they where going to be restrained why get the media away ?
Also the “I don’t have any bags” comment is true, i was actually on my way home and decided to hang out at the occupation, strange how being an “arsehole” really means standing up for your rights which is what I was doing.
And I suppose the woman who is screaming for like minute just suddenly decided to do that ? you need to open your mind because the mainstream media has been pushing your fear button for so long that’s all you react to anymore.
we are moving from Spain the world will waching
I personally believe in the freedom of speech for everyone, so there’s your comment published.
I was not at the site during the raid, but I have spoken with people who were there and they reported violence. There was also a post from others at the site prior to this one claiming violence. Thus the headline reflects that.
Unfortunately the very first vision, as it is labeled, could only be captured, in panic, on a mobile phone. Any detail is very unclear due to the distance from the subjects and quality. There was however no blurb claiming that it depicted a violent act, only the headline suggests that there was violence during the police raid. A claim that was made by multiple witnesses.
Certainly the assembly as a whole is not trying to pick any fights as you suggest. It has been repeated and endorsed many times that this should be a non-violent protest.
Speaking for myself, I’d found the police to be quite reasonable and tolerant prior to the events of this morning. I find most police to good honest Australians like you or me. I’ve even had a few good jokes with them over the week.
I’m saddened that it’s come to this. That’s probably all I have to say on it until further information becomes available. For me to say more would just be speculation at this time.
I really hope no-one was seriously hurt, occupier or police.
Peace.
We must retaliate by coming back in even greater numbers! The police will NOT stop this movement. It is GREATER than any government or police in the entire world!! The more people who come together, the sooner the governments in the world will realize there is no stopping the masses without eradicating them all. TOGETHER you can all stand up against this!! In UNITY there is STRENGTH! ALL OF YOU!!!
Goodwins law at the first comment.
Police ask people to move on who are illegaly occupying public space. If they don’t move there needs to be some level of coercion. A right to free speech is to say whatever you like. Not to set up camp wherever you like.
freedom of speech it may not be, however, that does not mean that there is no longer the right to freedom to protest… which is the voice of the people. I believe this is what they are referring to when they quote the phrase “freedom of speech”
Also must remember that there are different types of police. Riot police are a certain kind of policeperson who have specific skill sets, behaviour, phsychological profiles and physical capabilities set apart from normal patrol police. Even riot cops and patrol police do not always see eye to eye.
Knowing most of ppl at camp, knowing their commitment to peaceful protest, and their unhappiness with others at camp who may advocate a violent additude, I don’t believe they would have reacted violently en masse to the raid this morning.
I am so sad that this great movement of people coming together in public, visable, to be different, to express ideas, talking about what is wrong and needs to chnage, is so opposed. I don’t know what is so threatening to people. I wish more ppl could have come and talked and joined in.
Solidarity! Next chapter now.
Dear OCCUPY SYDNEY,
ADVICE WHEN ARRESTED:
The DUTY of a POLICE OFFICER is to PRESERVE the QUEEN’S PEACE.
If you are not DISTURBING the PEACE, they have NO RIGHT to interfere with your PEACEFUL PROTEST.
The Sydney City Council is NOT LOCAL GOVERNMENT… it is a CORPORATION. – Because the council is a corporation, it can ONLY operate under CONTRACT LAW and therefore with your CONSENT. Silence is tacit consent so when we don’t object, we consent! The simple solution is always ‘SHOW ME THE CONTRACT I SIGNED THAT GIVES YOU AUTHORITY OVER ME & MAKES ME SUBJECT TO YOUR BYLAWS AND THE STATUTES OF THE CORPORATE STATE OF NEW SOUTH WALES’ Once the people get this concept in their heads, we will strat turning things around. If they cannot produce the contract with each of us individually, &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot by saying ‘yes, we live IN NSW, when we ought be saying NO, I AM A FOREIGNER AND FOREIGN TO NSW (THE CORPORATE STATE) then pusue them with criminal complaints and charges, then you’ll see huge changes
LOCAL GOVERNMENT was ABOLISHED and NOT TO BE ESTABLISHED by the 1988 REFERENDUM.
Martin Place is a PUBLIC PLACE …… it belongs to the PEOPLE.
The POLICE have NO RIGHT to ORDER YOU to do anything or to TAKE YOUR PROPERTY.
They have NO RIGHT to ASSAULT YOU and to ARREST YOU.
“The purpose of a court in a civilized society is the vindication of men’s rights and the enforcement of just causes” – Lord Thomas Denning.
Your OCCUPY SYDNEY is a JUST CAUSE.
Your fingerprints and photograph are YOUR PROPERTY and are STOLEN, if taken WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT.
OCCUPY THE COURTS.
You are the 99%.
Your OCCUPY SYDNEY is a JUST CAUSE.
DEFEND YOUR RIGHTS.
Whatever

Now I know why you all were ordered to give up your firearms, however that alone is no real big deal. There’s petrol and powdered soap (great molotov coctail), slingshots (with ball bearings), bows and arrows, machetes, and a wide variety of other stuff that’s readily available. Here in the USA they are facing such a violent backlash, that when the population has had their fill of being beaten and tear gassed, what’s going to come at these assholes, will make all prior revolutions look like a Sunday school picnic.
Hey Occupyblog folk. You may want to delete Thomas Bleming’s post above because it is a clear incitement to commit a criminal offence possibly even a terrorist attack. I have forwarded a link to his comment to the Dept of Homeland Security in the US. Peaceful protest is one thing this stuff is entirely different.
So much for a free country and a right to protest. It is interesting the NSW Police acted on their own initiative after receiving complaints from workers – must be a lot of worker in the small hours of the morning.
Seriously though, you have to hand it to the coppers for their tactics for maximum anonimity of their actions.
1. Wait till the weekend when the media is basically running on skeleton staff.
2. when everyone is distracted by Occupy Melbourne.
3. wait for the rugby final weekend.
4. move in the early hours of the morning when the least number of protesters will be in place.
5. bulldoze through and arrest at random and say “voilent protestors” on a regular basis.
This is not freedom, this is a State working to actively undermine protests.
As I stated earlier, the forces of repression will continue on with their forceablly violent and illegal methods, until the people violently resist, then the police will be the targets of the rage against the state.
I’m not a betting man, but if I were, I’d say that it’s all going to lead to an uprising (world-wide), once it gets going.
So many people hate their governments and the corrupt political system which has allowed the international bankers and Wall Street tycoons, to screw over everyone.
I’ll take that bet. $100 says this amounts to 5/8ths of FA everywhere other than the USA. Those nasty 1% have screwed the world over have they. Instead of just repeating other peoples slogans do a little research. Almost 600 million people have advanced out of poverty in China in the past 40 years through gaining employment. Who gave them that employment? Big business, huge business, part of the 1%. Who financed those businesses to invest in that long term growth? The international banks that are also part of your hated 1%.
I’m not saying they’re all good but they’re certainly not all bad. In the last month BMW invested $1billion and opened a new factory in China, training and employing 9,500 people of which over 50% were previously unemployed. That is another 4,000 families coming out of poverty. And that is bad is it?
