The next General Assembly will be Saturday, 29 October at Martin Place at 6.30pm.
As MP is a notorious wind tunnel, Marla recommends warm jumper and a pillow to sit on. Wind breakers good too. Before that Occupy will be doing outreach and activities/workshops/stalls at various Sydney locations. You can add agenda items to this post for information of Facilitation Working Group.
October 29 – Outreach – (or moving away from Martin Place)
Thanks to all who put their names down to do stalls around Sydney this Saturday to speak to people, talk about OS support of the Global RobinHood Tax. There are some flyers for 5 November Rally and March here, which you can download and print.
There will be a stall at MP from 9.00am on Saturday for people to pick up flyers.
If you wish to volunteer for a stall/suburb, there are still spots going. Please email Clare: clare.fester[AT]gmail.com to add your name to the roster.
Upcoming working groups and discussions
Friday, 28 October General Assembly Facilitation Working Group – 4.30pm Martin Place ALL WELCOME.
Saturday, 29 October – Media workshop (skills building – not working group) – 4.00pm Martin Place ALL WELCOME
Saturday, 29 October – Cultural Geography, bodies, space, markers, mapping – 5.00pm Martin Place ALL WELCOME.
Saturday, 29 October – Yoga, 5.00pm Martin Place – ALL WELCOME.
Reports of fantastic working groups / discussions and creative action at MP today. Food for thought:
- Are we blaming the marginalised for their own hardship to create a heroic narrative for the rest of us?
- Conflict of interest – funding for NGOs comes from number of people on their books. Help the people, loose the funding.
- “After 6months on street you lose 50% of your social connections, 80% after 9months”
- Talking about the corporatisation of charity and the drivers of marginalisation.
- Talking Magna Carta at
#occupysydney common law and sovereignty workshop.

this really disturbed me if anyone working on this issue further I would like to get involved
I encourage you to come to the next GA, Saturday, Martin Place 6.30pm. Let ppl know you wanted to talk about this. I believe this information came from a common law discussion group held in the afternoon yesterday at Martin Place. There are quite a few people living homeless who are involved in Occupy and this sort of information, which is deeply concerning, which doesn’t get talked about, is one of the most important reasons to get involved.
you might also want to talk to @occupysydney who has a wealth of knowledge also @sydneyhomeless on twitter.
Solidary and thanks for making the flyers etc available to people like myself who live out of sydney but commute to work and would like to take part in both disseminating info and keeping up with GA’s and other discussions.
Iceland this year wrote its new constitution via facebook. We have a model for the use of social media in participatory democracy that has received little attention in the media, even surprisingly in left or alternative media. I for one am interested in discussions around how we make participation in the GA process available to folk who cannot for any number of reasons attend in person.
