Hi
I stand by the 99% one million percent…..my family and I are very blessed as I do have a job, nice home, food on the table… (although my husband lost his job)….however I for one do NOT bury my head in the sand as I personally will be joining the march in Sydney if it is on a Sunday as I work for a charitable organisation and need to work nightshift on Saturday so cannot join the march on Saturday….. I will surely be updating myself on all the activities.
Let’s be honest. The May 1st Global Strike Day was a bit of a fizzer in Australia. Both Occupiers were still there in Melbourne although one was sitting there crying. Like Kony, it was a fad. It came it went. Nothing changed.
Roger, you seem so negative. Is it because you live in a ivory tower and can’t appreciate the true reality of what is being dished out to ‘normal every day folk’ by the thieves running the Banking Corporations.
Occupy Sydney always states that all welcome. You dismiss and ignore people all the time. You seem to only include certain people. It seems to most people that if your not some green, left or uni student or hippie you are not welcome. I thought we were above labels and sterotypes. You need to reach out more to other parts of Sydney as well. Most people I know do not even know that you are still around.
You talk about reaching mainstream. Well jump on board the carbon tax and csg. Instead you are stuffing around with issues that are the least effective in doing this.
The message from other countries comes in loud and clear.
Maybe letterbox drops for protests on the carbon tax, csg etc…
The new Centrelink reforms as well have a lot of people worried.
Time you looked at yourselves as well, have a real good think about what is important to Sydney and NSW. You need to rally behind local issues not overseas. Even though they are linked. Most NSW people do not know that but highlight our issues and it will make them see the bigger picture.
I have been reading other comments and it seems you do not like constructive criticism.
Things can still change with courage, love in our hearts. You need stronger leadership and structure.
All are welcome. Many are involved in CSG protest and education campaigns. But there is no ‘you’ that you refer to – OS is not a monolith. Maybe take your discussions tot he facebook groups (link to right) that are very active in the sorts of research, discussion and action that’s is going on.
I spent May Day doing some support work for overseas activities and felt glad I could lend a tiny part of help in others struggles. May Day is also a day of solidarity with workers worldwide, and awareness raising of global issues, hearing other people define and talk about their struggles. Its a great reminder.
