Dear Julian Assange and WikiLeaks supporters, we are holding a rally to coincide with a worldwide rally to support JulianAssange and Wikileaks. #G4JAD
Rally: Sunday 15th July. 1 PM
Sydney Town Hall Sq.
Julian Assange has been forced to request political asylum from the Ecuadorian government because he has dared to stand up to US hegemony. This is a crucial time to let our government know that we expect them to uphold democracy. To defend our rights to be informed and to express our political views, to read what we want to read and to produce publicly available commentary, criticism and information about the world we live in.
Harassment of Julian Assange and WikiLeaks’ supporters is on the rise, with people being detained at airports, questioned and their phones and computers seized by security agencies. Supporters and colleagues have been subpoenaed for questioning about Assange and WikiLeaks, putting the lie to Bob Carr’s claim that the US is not mounting a legal case against Assange.

We need to let our government know we are awake, particularly to Bob Carr’s attempts to mislead us about what the US government is doing. We need to let them know that we expect them to properly defend Assange’s and our rights to free speech and to be informed.
Please bring your placards and your voices.
Kind regards,
OccupySydney on behalf of : Jann Dark (For Support Assange and WikiLeaks Coalition)

Assange is running away from responsibility. His personal actions are being disguised by his Wikileaks involvement. His apparent sexual assaults on those two women have nothing to do with Wikileaks. Please don’t tell me that Occupy is prepared to accept his personal behaviour because in all other ways he is a good bloke?
By the way what makes you think extradition to the US would be any easier from Sweden as from the UK?
His personal actions are being disguised by Wikileaks? Not sure that’s the case – I believe it’s the opposite way around. That those in power are using his personal actions to attack Wikileaks.(NB: Innocence before Guilt is still a key foundation of our legal system. He is yet to be charged, The Swedish authorities had every right to interview him in the UK).
It’s not right to have someone under house arrest for more than 500 days without charges laid. But – for discussion sake, let’s say he is guilty. Guilty of having sex without a condom. How wonderful this world would be, if all sexual assaults were investigated to such detail.
Occupy – as a group, believes that people have a right to the truth. And that citizen journalism is even more important in these days than the Main stream rubbish we are being fed.
this is my personal opinion – each of us have our own points of view. Some support Julian Assange, some don’t. But majority support the work of Wikileaks.
Katie, I find it sad that you diminish the claims of sexual assault by two women by flippantly saying “guilty of having sex without a condom”. My personal opinion is that women should not be expected to put up with sexual assault regardless of how wonderful or righteous the man. This has nothing to do with Wikileaks. Assange wants to make it a conspiracy to benefit himself.
Just stating the details of the claims, and that no charges have yet been laid, therefore no crime has been proven yet. Of course, no one should ever have to deal with sexual assault.
Of course the reason he was under house arrest for so long was that he was exercising his legal rights of appealing to the next higher court as each appeal failed. He should be thankful he got only house arrest as he was always a flight risk as he ultimately proved. Now his Mother is complaining to Venezuela that the room given him in their London Embassy is too cramped. If he faced the music in the first place this would likely be over by now.
